The preliminary data of Statistics Finland showed that 581 accidents involving personal injury occurred in road traffic in August leaving 22 persons killed and 704 injured.
 
The number of persons killed was five lower and that of persons injured 117 lower than that in August 2012.
 
Of the persons killed, 12 travelled by passenger car, three on motorcycle and one on moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered two and cyclists three.
 
In addition, one other road user was killed. Among those who died, 18 were men and four were women.
 
A total of 3,367 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to August period. In them, 176 persons were killed and 4,224 persons injured.
 
The number of persons killed was seven lower and that of persons injured 361 lower than in the corresponding period of 2012.
 
Of the persons killed, 105 travelled by passenger car, five by van, three by lorry, 24 on motorcycle and two on moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 14 and cyclists 16.
 
In addition, seven other road users were killed.
