Bill placed in parliament to enact law

The government, to improve social security support for foreign residents, has taken a move to entitle expatriates in getting equal social benefits like the native people.
 
The six-party alliance government in this regard placed a bill before the parliament on Thursday to enact a law, expected to be passed soon and implemented by next year, parliament sources said.
 
According to the draft bill, the state should treat all people, whether native or expatriate, equally from the perspectives of social and healthcare supports.

If the bill is passed, people living in Finland from outside of the European Union will be entitled to avail all the social benefits including healthcare, family benefits such as child allowance and homecare allowance, said the proposed law.
 
Even people, who will reside for very short term due to their services or business, will be entitled to social benefits and security system under the law.

The government already earmarked EUR 4.8 million allocations for the next year’s budget proposal to ensure social supports for expatriates after the law comes into effect.
 
The government while placing the bill pointed out that the social benefits would able to attract short-term workers and business persons to Finland.
