A grenade was found inside of a fresh packet of a silica gel, used to close outside toilet and produced by Kekkilä company, at Salo area on Friday, reported a Finnish language newspaper Turun Sanomat on Friday.

Police said that a retired person found the grenade when he opened the bag to cover the toilet situated outside of his summer house.

The grenade is old and might have been used during the Second World War, police and defence forces observed after initial investigation on the grenade.

The producer, however, failed to understand how the grenade could get into the bag as all the materials were checked before packaging.

“All the materials of the company are examined closely. The grenade is bigger than 32 millimetres and should have been removed before the packaging,” the chief of the company Petri Alava said.

Meanwhile, police recovered huge explosive from the possession of an explosive technician inside a garage of a house in Joensuu and arrested the 38-years old technician in this connection on Friday.

Based on the information given by the father of the accused, police rushed to the spot and recovered about 100 kilograms of Tri-Nitro-Toluene from the house.

The explosive generally available in the ammunition store of military forces, said police, adding that the accused is entitled to use explosive but not authorised to store such big quantity.

“The explosives were acquired legally but he was not authorised to store the huge amount,” the superintendent of Joensuu police, Sami Joutjärvi said.
