FTimes-STT Report, October 1

A man was killed when his speeding car skidded off on the road due to spike mat put by police on his way as a move to stop him at Äänekoski area in Middle Finland on Monday evening.

Police said that they had to put the spike mat on the road as the man was violating speed limit for a long time and did not pay heed to police despite repeated signals, which made traffic movement risky for other travellers.

Sources said that police found the man driving car violating speed limit at Pyhäjärvi  area in Northern Ostrobothnia at about 5.00 pm.

A team of patrol police chased the man and asked him to stop the car but he tried to flee away ignoring the police signal.

The  man started to drive faster and approached to the Road number 4 toward the South. Another team of police tried to stop him when he reached to Viitasaari area but the man continued driving with over speed ignoring the police signals.

At certain stage the police used spike carpet on the road to compel him stopping the vehicle sensing his movement risky for other travellers.

But the man continued the speeding driving even amidst the spike carpet on the road instead to stopping the car resulting the car skidded off on the road at Lintulahti in Äänekoski. He died on the spot
