Sun, 06 Oct, 2013 12:02:32 AM FTimes-STT Report, October 6 The expelled True Finns (Perussuomalainen) leader, James Hirvisaari. Photo – Lehtikuva. The expelled True Finns (Perussuomalainen) leader James Hirvisaari on Saturday said that he would form a new parliament group, if he is asked not to continue in the True Finns group.
“I do not think that any other parliament member of True Finns will join me. In this case I have to form the group by myself ,” Hirvisaari told STT, adding that it is almost sure none would join him under the present circumstance.
He, however, said that the True Finns party is neither a right-wing extremist nor a racist political organisation.
“I am now out of the picture. Now the True Finns would not be able to blame me anymore,” said the lawmaker, adding that he already received a notification from the chairperson of the parliamentary group on Thursday in this regard.
The opposition True Finns (Perussuomalainen) on Friday expelled its party lawmaker James Hirvisaari for the recent activities of his guest in parliament.
The party high-ups accepted the proposal made by the working committee unanimously on Thursday to expel Hirvisaari as he admitted the incident of taking photograph of the friend while posed in a Nazi salute at the Parliament and posting it online later.
Some personal activities of the leader also prompted the party high-ups to take such action against him, party insiders said.
Earlier, in April last year the lawmaker was suspended from the party’s parliamentary group for refusal to terminate an assistant despite making a racist remark.
The assistant, Helena Eronen in her blog suggested that non-Finnish people should wear a Nazi-style arm band so that police can identify them easily.
Helena Eronen, however, was forced to resign following widespread criticism by the people.
In 2010, a Kouvola appeal court upheld a sentence for inciting racial hatred for a blog about immigration in which the MP was found to have committed slander against Muslims, reported Yle.
In other online writings Hirvisaari also commented that rape was a “genetic or cultural characteristic" of certain cultures.
