Compulsory military training saves EUR 300 million defence budget

The chairman of the parliamentary committee, Jussi Niinistö on Sunday defended the existing rules of mandatory military training for every citizen as the training programme strengthens social bonding among different classes of people in addition to saving huge money of defence budget.

“The military training helps the nation to save Euro 300 million every year, which is about 15 percent of the defence budget,” said Jussi Niinistö while addressing a programme of National Defence Forces at Uusimaa in Hyvinkää, adding that the national would be fragmented socially, if the rule of compulsory military training is repealed.

The True Finns lawmaker also pointed out that the social bonding among the higher and lower cases is already under threat.

“ The people from all social classes get the opportunity to know each other through the training programme,” he said, adding that it also helpful for practicing disciplines and integrity of the youths.

He viewed that the cost effecting provision should be continued as it saves huge amount every year.

Earlier, on October 4 a survey report said majority of the people believe that the existing rule of compulsory military training for every citizen is necessary and the provision should remain unchanged.

A Finnish language newspaper Suomen Kuvalehti conducted the poll during September where about 80 percent of the respondents spoke in favour of the existing rule for mandatory military training.

According to the existing provision  every citizen  needs to participate in military training in different terms of six months, nine months or one year mandatorily.
