Strong winds fell trees, electric poles in North, East regions

Stormy winds over the Northern and Eastern parts of the country on Sunday uprooted number of tress and electric poles causing disruption in road communications and power supply.
 
Electricity connections have been snapped at different areas due to the heavy winds and about 5,000 households went out of power in Northern and Eastern Finland.
 
Power supply companies Fortum and E.ON sources said that the repair works were going on and power supply was expected to be restored in all the households by Monday.
 
Sources said that about 2,000 households remained out of electricity at Kainuu area till Sunday night while power supply of 2,500 households at Koillismaa area remained snapped.
 
At North Karjala there were 400 households still in blackout and 20 households at North Savo also facing the power outage.
 
The power companies said that a large number of electricity wires and poles were broken due to the winds resulting the sufferings to their customers.
 
The adverse weather disrupted roads and rail communications as fallen trees blocked roads and damaged property at Oulu-Koillismaa area.
 
The Railway authority (VR) had to replace number of train services by buses on Oulu-Kouvola, Kuopio-Rovaniemi and Vaala- Kajaani routes.
