Investigation on hacking credit cards underway
FTimes-STT Report, October 19

About 30 thousand people have been cheated when a well organised criminal gang realised money from them  through internet in guise  of law enforcing agency.

Police said that the gang hacked the computers using malware and locked the hard disk saying that police and other authorities entered into the system and shout down the computers.

Later the criminal gangs asked for Euro 100 from every computer user to unlock the hard disk  with the assurance of making the computer operative, said police.

“Usually this happens when a person visits some vague web pages such as adult entertainment pages,” said a top official of the Communication Security Unit Cert-Fi,  Kauto Huopio.

The expert said that despite taking money, they did not make any computer operative.

Meanwhile, investigation  to find out the criminals involved in series of incidents of hacking credit cards is underway.

Police suspected involvement of a young man in Espoo in connections with the incidents and after initial investigation  they said that over 3,000 foreign credit card information were hacked through internet.

The investigating officer of the case said that the young man had access to the Finnish data information through use of foreign servers.

According to the investigating officer, the young man admitted  that he had used the foreign credit cards in online shopping.

Police, however, assured that  people need not to take any measure to protect credit cards from the hackers.
