FTimes-STT Report, October 29

The mayor of Kinulla, a municipality corporation, was removed on Monday night following his defeat in a no-confidence motion brought against him by the municipal council.

The council at a meeting brought the no-confidence motion against Juha Urpilainen, mayor of  Kinulla in Central Finland without mentioning any specific allegation, which was passed unanimously, meeting sources said.

“The reason for his dismissal has been cited as general lack of confidence,” said the Municipal Council's Chairperson Esko Pelkonen.

The council chairperson added that according to the decision, Urpilainen be relieved of his responsibilities, which will be effective immediately.

The search for a new mayor will be initiated soon, said sources.

Juha Urpilainen had been serving as the mayor of Kinulla, a municipality having 1,800 inhabitants, since 2004.

His predecessor was Paavo-Pekka Moilanen, who was also dismissed by a decision reached by the Municipal Council.

Earlier on April 22, the Heinola city Mayor Tita Rinnevaara was removed following a similar no-confidence vote against her, where the city council alleged Rinnevaara of failing to control the city administration and not being able to take make decisions effectively.

The city council also instantly appointed an ad hoc committee to run the office of the mayor.
