About 40% of Finnish people contribute to charities of various voluntary organisations during the Christmas season, said a survey report conducted by SOS Lapsikylä, a non-government organisation that works on the forefront of protecting rights and interest of children.
The usual Christmas donation is under €20, the report said, adding that every fifth of the 1,000 surveyed respondents planned to donate between €20 and €50, while about 60% had the intention to spend more than €50.
They surveys also showed that women were more active contributors compared to men as 62% of the surveyed women had already contributed to donations during this year. Only 41% male did the same this year.
It also revealed that people over 56 years of age were more active donators.
The respondents also felt that children in the country were the most important group which charity should benefit.
