A worker was killed in an accident while working at the Metsä Wood factory in Savonlinna on Monday.
The accident occurred in the Punkaharju plant of the factory, which prepares veneer lumber beams and plates that are usually used for roofing purposes and support beams.
According to the police, the middle-aged man was directing a crane holding over three tones of lumber on top of the coffer and for some reason the load collapsed and sandwiched him in between the coffer.
The police – who are investigating the incident as an occupational accident – believe that the man died instantly.
