The Environment Minister Ville Niinistö on Thursday presented in the parliament the government's proposals on environmental law reforms with the provision for including industrial emission into the national law.
The goal of the directive is to harmonize industrial environmental protection and also reduce the consumption of water, energy and raw materials.
“Good environmental regulations will create a lot of environmental business in Finland and at the same time employment in the sector,” said Niinistö, adding that the draft law is also aimed at safeguarding the citizens with clean environment and nature.
If the proposal is passed, it will improve the licensing procedures and controlling authority to protect the environment.
The reform will also tackle the issue of investment in peat as more clarification is required regarding peat production regulations in order to come with even better means of protection.
“The provision will ensure the preservation of significant and precious natural values, pristine swamps and continuation of their natural state,” said Niinistö while placing the proposal.
