Wed, 15 Jan, 2014 03:11:57 AM FTimes-STT Report, January 15 File Picture. Photo Lehtikuva. A bill proposing to limit the purchase of real estate by foreigners, particularly Russians in Finland, is not attracting signatures anymore, reported political news outlet Verkkolehti and Swedish-language newspaper Hufvudstadsbladet.
A number of the initial signatories including Jouko Skinnari, Mika Kari and Merja Mäkisalo-Ropponen of Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (social democratic party) and Anu Vehviläinen of Suomen Keskusta (centre party) have withdrawn their names from the bill citing various reasons.
Jouko Skinnari said he decided to pull out because after careful observation, he had found out that he did not agree with all the facets in the bill.
Member of Parliament Suna Kymäläinen said the bill had drawn a lot of criticism and the restrictions would likely be an impediment to trade with Russian and affect the number of Russian tourists in Finland.
