A total of 18 people were killed and 557 sustained injuries in various road accidents last December.

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, the number of people killed was four higher and injuries six lesser than the figures of December 2012.

Of those killed, ten travelled by passenger cars, two by van, one by lorry and one by moped. A total of four pedestrians were killed in road accidents. Among those who died,

13 were men and five women.

A total of 5,324 road accidents causing personal injuries happened in the January to December 2013 period. In them, 258 persons were killed and 6,670 injured. The number of people killed was four higher and injuries 405 less than what they were in the corresponding period a year before. Of those killed, 153 travelled by passenger cars, ten by vans, six by lorries, 24 by motorcycles and five by moped.

The number of pedestrians killed was 33 and cyclists 20. In addition, seven other people were killed on the road.
