A 55-year-old woman was killed and a 60-year-old man sustained burn wounds in a fire that took place at a house in Inari on the night between late Thursday and early Friday.
The fire occurred when the couple were asleep, while the man woke up to a lot of smoke and was unable to do anything to save his partner’s life.
Police sources said the man went to seek help from the neighbours, but by the time rescue services had arrived, nothing could be done to save the woman.
The 85-square-meter residential house and the building located next to it were totally destroyed by the fire.
Police are investigating the cause of the blaze but there was no indication of criminal activity, according to Esa Harju, the officer heading the investigations.
