Two people were killed when a fire broke out at a house in Asikkala in Päijät-Häme on Saturday.

Fire-fighters and police said the wooden house – built in the 1950s and located in Männiköntie – was completely destroyed in the blaze.

Three people were inside the house when the fire broke out, according to the fire-fighters on duty. Police and rescue services are investigating the cause of the fire.

In another incident, a six-bedroom terraced house caught fire in Sodankylä in the early hours of Saturday morning.

One of the terraced house resident was hospitalised with injuries while other tenants were evacuated in time.

The building, located in Kehtomaantie, was completely destroyed beyond repair as fire-fighters engaged the fire until midday. The fire however did not spread to the garden near the building and the cars parked nearby.

Earlier, a 55-year-old woman was killed and a 60-year-old man sustained burn wounds in a fire that took place at a house in Inari on the night between late Thursday and early Friday.
