The acting deputy chancellor of justice on Monday asked the police departments to ensure meticulous inspection of their vehicles for road worthiness.

The acting deputy chancellor Risto Hiekkataipale made the instruction after being informed that two police vehicles were running without fitness inspection.

One of the car was in use at the Helsinki police department, while the other was at South Ostrobothnia police department, sources at the deputy chancellor’s office said.

The police authority, however, told the guardian of the law that the failure to check vehicle fitness was unintentional.

Hiekkataipale reminded that fitness examinations were necessary for not only road safety, but also for the credibility of the police department.

Stressing on the importance of occupational safety for the police force, he said the law enforcers should make sure the vehicles they were using are in good condition and inspected for road worthiness.

Hiekkataipale further pointed out that the part of the work of the police was to ensure that only vehicles that have been inspected for road worthiness were driven.
