More than 9,300 foreign immigrants were granted Finnish citizenship in the year 2013, said sources at the Finnish Immigration Service.
 
The largest group to obtain citizenship were Russians totalling over 2,000 followed by Somalis, Iraqis and Afghans. 
 
About four out of five applicants became citizens of Finland.
 
For several years now those issued with citizenship have largely come from the above named countries with Russia coming on top of the list.
 
Nearly 800 individuals became citizens through declaration.
 
Former citizens of Finland can regain citizenship through declaration.
