The Chancellor of Justice has cleared former minister for international development Heidi Hautala of charges of wrongdoing in connection with the Artica Shipping case saga.

Earlier, state owned icebreaking company Artica Shipping filed a complaint against pro-environment group Greenpeace.

Some activists of Greenpeace allegedly boarded one of the Artica ships without permission to protest against the Arctic ice drilling.

The government operator eventually withdrew the complaint against Greenpeace. However, complaints were made against Hautala after she was accused of pressuring Artic Shipping to withdraw the complaint made against Greenpeace.

The Chancellor of Justice found no illegality in the actions of Hautala and Pekka Timonen, a senior official at the ownership steering department.

Hautala was forced to resign in October 2013 amid controversy foregrounding the Artic Shipping case.

Hauatala rejoiced the Chancellor’s judgement in a Tweet and said the decision had proved that she had not done anything legal.
