Jari Aarnio, the detained former chief of the drug unit of Helsinki police, is now being suspected for having used coercive means.

Jukka Haavisto, lead prosecutor of the case filed against Aarnio, told STT that Aarnio was suspected of secretly using unjustified force.

According to Haavisto, the new revelations relate to alleged criminal activities conducted by one of Aarnio’s subordinates.

Detaomed Aarnio would have to remain behind bars as the prosecution sought more time for investigation. The detained officer has denied all the charges against him.

Three police officers were arrested last week but two were released a day later. One officer remained behind bars as the prosecution sought a court order to extend his detention.

The officers are suspected for aggravating the abuse of their official positions, illegal surveillance and unjustified use of coercive means.

Jari Aarnio has been in custody since November on suspicion that he had been involved in drug-related crimes and corruption.
