Jyrki Kangas, director general of state-owned Metsähällitus that manages most of the protected areas in Finland, has resigned from his post.

Kangas made the decision protesting the legislative restructuring of the enterprise in which a separate company was to oversee the forestry management.

He said he would have ideally liked to develop the enterprise in its unified and traditional form rather than a splintered one.

Kangas has been serving as the boss of Metsähällitus for seven years.
