During the time, population increased by 1,400 persons, which is 50 persons less than in the preliminary data for January 2013.
The main reason for the population increase was migration gain from abroad, the number of immigrants being 1,100 higher than that of emigrants. Natural population growth, or excess of births to deaths, was 300 persons, said the data.
In January, 2,350 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 1,250 persons emigrated from Finland, said the statistics.
The number of immigrants was 400 lower and the number of emigrants 100 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
In all, 600 of the immigrants and 900 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
According to the data, the number of inter-municipal migrations totalled 18,850 during January.
