Metal railings worth thousands of euros were stolen from the Finnish National Opera about a week ago, police sources said on Sunday.

The thieves also took away metal grills from the window of the building.

According to police sources, the theft took place on a night before Sunday around 3:00 am. The police are investigating a case of aggravated theft.

Two summers back security was tightened at Finlandia Talo after railings vanished. Despite the beefed security the remaining railings were ferried off the same summer.

Police inspector Sami Kalliomaa said that copper has traditionally been targeted by thieves but he could not provide more details on nature of the metal theft market.
