Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen on Wednesday said the ministerial dockets, vacated by the resignation of Vasemmistoliito (Left Alliance) would be filled in next week, reported Yle.

Leaders of the parties in the government are scheduled to meet soon to discuss the changed situation.

The Left Alliance decided to quit government on Tuesday after rejecting the austerity package presented during the budget talks.

Katainen, however, did not specify whether the vacant dockets would be filled by new ministers or if the responsibilities would be distributed among the existing ministers.

Finance Minister Jutta Urpilainen, also chief of the SDP, said on Wednesday that her party had not yet discussed the situation that has arisen after the departure of the Left Alliance.

Urpilainen said there were possibilities of both - new ministers might be named while at the same time responsibilities might be shared among the existing ministers.
