The fire that caused the death of three people in Malminkartano neighbourhood of Helsinki on Tuesday night might have been caused deliberately.
 
The police suspect that the resident of the badly damaged apartment might have started the fire. A man born in 1958 was himself killed.
 
Two more people living in the upper floor apartments of the building perished in the fire and one other person was seriously injured as a result of gas inhalation.
 
According to the police, plenty of inflammable liquid seemed to have been used to start the fire. As a result, the fire caused exposition that led to much destruction.
 
The investigation did not however indicate the use of explosives.
 
The amount of the flammable liquid or its quality and the way the fire was executed is still not known.
 
The incident is being treated as a criminal investigation.
