The city authorities of Rovaniemi, the official hometown of Santa Claus, have launched a new web site in English for international visitors updating its earlier international page for a smooth supply of information and news on contemporary events.

The revamped web page responsive to modern electronic devices is very user-friendly, says a city of Rovaniemi press release.

The web site has an infobank, a hoard of basic information, and a wide range of key information on areas such as education, culture, healthcare, transport, immigrant organisations and projects for integration of immigrants targeting foreigners, particularly visitors, students and immigrants living in the heart of Lapland.

Information on scenic and tourist spots in the capital of Finnish Lapland are also available on the site to attract tourists to the city of eight seasons.

“The number of immigrants living and studying here in Rovaniemi is increasing. The goal of the organisation is to support the integration of new Rovaniemi citizens,” the press release said. The starting point is to provide equal services and participation opportunities for all residents.

The city authorities expect newcomers from any part of the world to be able to glean an overall view of Rovaniemi by visiting the English web site.

Sensing a growing global importance of the Arctic region in recent years, the city of Rovaniemi has undertaken a number of projects to strengthen its role in Arctic research and design to benefit from the planned large investments.

“Cooperation with the neighbouring areas and in the arctic Barents region will be an important feature of the restructured international web site,” the release said.

The newly refurbished web site also includes RSS news feed on international issues and events, particularly those of the Arctic, in addition to updated local information.

From now on, the web site is continuously updated to keep it the same as the Rovaniemi.fi web site.

The city authorities hoped that with free access to information on the web site, immigrants would be able to get their required services.

The city’s international web site has often offered a first view of Rovaniemi to the people living abroad.

The address of the new website ishttp://international.rovaniemi.fi
