FTimes-STT Report, May 8

A crowd made mainly of pensioners gathered in a pedestrian street in the city centre to meet with ministers Paula Risikko, Alexander Stubb and Jan Vapaavuori.

There were young people, too. A queue quickly formed: some looking for a handshake while others lined to have autographs.

Some people wanted to talk for a bit longer, and the discussions dealt with economic issues, among other subjects.

Petteri Helander, one of the supporters in the crowd, said he expects more assertiveness from the candidates on the issue of Greece and the general use of finances in the EU.

The ministers scattered to different locations in the street. Rissikko went to discuss in a local restaurant while Stubb rushed to a shopping centre at Kempele. Vapaavuori went to meet citizens.

Later, the three were to discuss the issue of jobs in a joint event.

The party will convene in June to elect a new chairperson to succeed Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen who announced on April 5 his decision to step down as the National Coalition Party chairman as well as the prime minister.
