An elderly woman was killed in a fire that broke out at a terrace house at Mänttä-Vilppula in the Pirkanmaa region on Wednesday.
One of the dwellers in the house also sustained serious burn wounds in the fire.
"The house was fully engulfed in fire when we arrived." said Heikki Havukainen, the chief fire fighter on duty.
Havukainen said that victim was quickly pulled out of the house but could not be saved.
The terrace house has four apartments and all were evacuated.
According to Havukainen, the residents will be forced to seek temporary accommodation elsewhere as the roof of the building is badly damaged.
The cause of the fire could not be ascertained till Wednesday afternoon.
The fire started from the apartment in which the victim was found, according to the chief fire fighter.
