Early voting in the European Parliament elections began on Friday.
 
The voting started fairly slow compared to the previous elections. By 6:00 pm in the evening 98,000 votes had been cast.
 
In the last elections 104,000 votes had been cast in the corresponding time on the first day of voting. About 50,000 men and nearly 54,000 women had cast their votes on the first day of voting with a turnout percentage of 2.5.
 
At the moment, there are a total of 850 polling stations with voting taking place in municipal and town halls, libraries, shopping centres and postal shops.

The total number of those enfranchised is 4.2 million.
 
The election day in Finland, is May 25. Advance voting takes place in Finland on May 14 to 20 and abroad on May 14 to 17. 
 
A total of 251 candidates have been nominated for the European Parliament elections 2014. 
 
Fourteen out of the 16 registered political parties in the country have nominated candidates, said a release of the Statistics Finland.
 
According to the release, in addition to the political parties, a constituency association also has nominated a candidate.
 
Of the candidates, 150 are men and 101 women.
 
A total of 751 members are elected for the parliament’s five-year term and 13 of these members are elected from Finland.
