The council of Social Democratic Party (SDP) of Finland decided unanimously on Wednesday that the new party chair Antti Rinne will become Finland's new finance minister and deputy prime minister, Finnish media reported.

The former trade union leader Rinne was elected to be the leader of SDP on May 9. After weeks of speculation, Rinne has been selected to take former SDP chair Jutta Urpilainen's ministerial post to become Finland's new finance minister.

He will also be the deputy prime minister of Finland, and is going to assume offices next week, according to Finnish national broadcaster YLE.

Rinne told Finnish daily Helsingin Sanomat that he will have more opportunities to boost employment at the moment when there is a large number of people suffering from unemployment in Finland.

The Finnish government is dueto change in June, as current Prime Minister and Chairman of the conservative National Coalition Party(NCP) Jyrki Katainen is set to resign from his posts.

The possible successor of Katainen might be current Economic Minister Jan Vapaavuori, Foreign Trade Minister Alexander Stubb,orSocial and Health Minister Paula Risikko from the NCP, speculated Helsingin Sanomat.

Rinne hoped that the NCP could decide the chair first, then continue its cooperation with the other government parties.
