But in the mainland the potatoes will be ready next week at the earliest, according to Antti Lavonen from the Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK).
The growing season-slowness has also surprised the farmers, said Lavonen.
Potato farming does not thrive on very warm temperature and its ideal condition is the normal Finnish summer weather with the temperature ranging between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius.
The sale of open-land-grown strawberries is also expected in a couple of weeks, according to the evaluation of Hannu Salo from the Fruit and Berry Growers’ Association.
Greenhouse-grown strawberries are however already on the sale.
