The majority of Finns view Russian President Vladimir Putin as a threat to stability in Europe.

According to a survey published in the Talouselämä magazine, 59 per cent of the respondents regard Putin as a threat to stability in the region. Only one-third of the respondents do not regard Putin as such a threat.

Supporters of the Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) expressed less fear in the threat posed by Putin compared to supporters of the Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party), Vihreä Liitto (Green League) and Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party).

Of those surveyed, supporters of the Suomen Ruotsalainen Kansanpuolue (Swedish People’s Party of Finland) consider Putin more of a threat compared to supporters of other parties.

More women than men consider Putin a threat. On average, professionals, experts and leading entrepreneurs also consider Putin more often a threat to Europe.

The survey covered 1,000 Finns with a +/- 2.5 per cent margin of error.
