FTimes-STT Report, June 3

File Photo – Lehtikuva.
A new device called Revika will help the law enforcers to identify drivers who default from paying car tax, insurance and fines, and nab those who are driving uninspected vehicles.

The trial for the device will begin in Oulu from the beginning of June and will continue until autumn.

Revika is a video camera based system which scans the environment and constantly compares vehicles registration with the information in the police database.

The device triggers an alarm when a wanted registration is found. The police can therefore stop the driver and confirm whether the given information is correct or not.

The device also has a radar and speedometer for ascertaining average speed.

If proven successful, Revika device will be installed in police cars countrywide.
