Majority of the lawmakers are not ardent to apply for NATO membership, according to a survey conducted by Savon Sanomat, a Finnish language newspaper
 
Slightly over one fifth of the 115 respondents out of the 200 legislators interviewed were in favour of joining NATO in the next parliamentary term. Two thirds of the respondents opposed the application to join the military alliance.
 
Most who supported applying for NATO membership were the Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party) MPs of which 20 of them would apply for membership in the next parliamentary term.
 
Majority of those opposed to the membership application came from the Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party) MPs of which 21 of them expressed opposition.
 
Also the majority of Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland), Vihreä Liitto (Green League) and Perussuomlaiset (Finns Party) legislators were opposed to the idea.
 
All the 10 MPs from the Vasemmistoliito (Left Alliance) interviewed were opposed to the application for NATO membership.
