The  newly elected chairman of the Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party-SDP),  Antti Rinne has been made the Finance Minister on Friday.
 
President Sauli Niinistö appointed Rinne as the new Finance Minister and at the same time released the former Finance Minister Jutta Urpilainen, said an official press release.
 
Minister Rinne took an oath of office and a judicial oath at the plenary session of the Government.
 
The Government at the session decided on the division of responsibilities between ministers and on ministers' deputies.
 
Minister of Finance Rinne was appointed as the minister deputising for the Prime Minister. Minister Rinne is a member of all four cabinet committees and acts as vice-chair of the Economic Council.
 
Earlier on May 9, the SDP elected Antti Rinne, as its new chairman.
 
Rinne takes over from Finance Minister Jutta Urpilainen who led the party for six years.
 
The 51-year-old Rinne has had a long career in trade union movement and as a lawyer.
 
The council of Social Democratic Party (SDP) of Finland decided unanimously on May 28 that the new party chair Antti Rinne will become Finland's new finance minister and deputy prime minister.
