The anti-narcotics unit of Helsinki police is set to undergo organizational restructuring, reported the Iltalehti, a Finnish language tabloid on Saturday.

According to the news outlet, one option on the card is to carry out a complete overhaul of the unit and set it up again.

The second option, according to the Iltalehti, is to incorporate the unit into the criminal investigation unit.

According to the news report, the person to replace Jari Aarnio, the suspended head of Helsinki police anti-narcotics unit is also under consideration.

Earlier on February 10, Petri Rainiala, a detective from the Helsinki police said the investigations related to Jari Aarnio, the detained former chief of Helsinki police drugs unit has put a negative impact on the unit’s activities.

Aarnio has been in custody since his arrest in November 2013 on various charges including bribery, money laundering and abusing his official position.

According to Rainiala, the unit staff were currently working under too much pressure and trying to do their best.

The detective said it was embarrassing when people asked and criticised officers and how things were done at the workplace while they knew nothing.
