FTimes Report, June 15

A delegation from the Council of Europe's Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) made an evaluation visit to Finland from 9 to 13 June.

This was the first evaluation visit by the Group to Finland, said a press release of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

The visit was part of a procedure during which GRETA evaluates the implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings in Finland, according to the release issued on Friday.

“The Convention entered into force in Finland on 1 September 2012, and the evaluation conducted now is the first concerning Finland,” it said.

The evaluation began in autumn 2013 with a questionnaire sent by GRETA to Finland and the questionnaire was replied in January 2014.

During its visit, GRETA met with authorities and representatives of civil society both in Helsinki and elsewhere in Finland. The delegation also visited accommodation facilities for victims of trafficking in human beings.

GRETA will prepare a report in which it evaluates the implementation of the Convention in Finland.

The report would be published and submitted to the Committee of the Parties to the Convention, the release said.
