Four Finnish men and one Estonian woman are suspected of earning thousands of euros from offering rental apartments to be used for prostitution, said the National Bureau of Investigation.

The suspects are believed to have earned a total of 400,000 euros from the racket.

The prostitution scam concerns eight apartments used for pimping in Vaasa, Seinäjoki, Tampere, Oulu and Pori.

The suspects are linked to a large ring of suspected pimping investigated in two separate cases.

In the second case, the four men and the woman are suspected of renting out houses used for sex trade between 2008 and 2014.

The woman is suspected of delivering Estonian women of Russian origin to work as prostitutes in the apartments. The police suspect millions of euros had been earned from the commercial sex activity.

The women working as prostitutes were drawn by a duty roster.

The suspects have largely admitted to their actions.

The police have also confiscated several thousand euros gained from the criminal activity from the apartments. A detached house owned by one of the male suspects is also set up for confiscation.

The first case against the prostitution ring was heard in the Pirkanmaa District Court a year ago in which two men were sentenced to two years in prison for aggravated pimping.

Three women were also charged with aggravated pimping but the charges were dropped. The case is still awaiting ruling from the Court of Appeal.

Those convicted in the first case are not the same individuals currently under investigation.

The NBI has conducted its investigations together with the Estonian police.
