Preliminary data from the Finnish Swimming Teaching and Lifesaving Federation indicate that 31 people drowned to death in July.
Of that number 24 were male and 7 female. Last year in July a total of 23 people had drowned.
So far this year a total of 96 people including 79 men and 17 women have drowned while the corresponding number last year was 68.
More than a dozen drowned while swimming, said the federation.
