More Finns now support for NATO membership following the Ukraine crisis, according to a survey by YLE.

The recent survey conducted by Taloustutkimus at the turn of the month reveals that 26 per cent of Finns are now in favour of joining the military alliance.

The support has risen by 2 percentage points from that found in the previous survey conducted in March and by as much as 9 percentage points from that in November last.

Still, nearly 60 per cent of the respondents are not in favour of joining NATO.

The respondents were also asked about their opinions on whether they regard Russia as a threat to the country. The majority, 56 per cent, view Russia as a threat.

The majority of respondents who perceive Russia as a threat are between the age of 35 and 49 years.

Taloustutkimus interviewed one thousand people and the margin of error is +/- 2.5 per cent.
