Timo Laaninen, secretary of the opposition Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party), has called on the prime minister to restore people’s confidence in the government’s capacity to act.

Speaking at a Centre Party function in Heinävesi, Laaninen said the ruling parties were bickering over next year’s budget, even though people were living in a time of crisis.

Given other circumstances, a little politicking would be understandable, since election is approaching, but at this moment this cannot be afforded, remarked Laaninen.

The country needs a government that focuses on finding a diplomatic solution to the crisis in Ukraine and fends off negative effects of the crisis.
