An 80-year-old woman from Pielavesi was killed on the spot in an accident that involved an ambulance on Tuesday in Siilinjärvi, north Savonia.
Two people inside the ambulance which was on an emergency mission were slightly injured in the accident, said the police. The patient inside the ambulance was however not injured.
The accident took place at the intercession between the National Road 5 and Varpaisjärventie at around noon. It was heavily raining at the time.
The accident happened when the ambulance tried to overtake from the oncoming lane but the woman in the car did not notice the ambulance resulting to a head-on collision.
According to the police, the emergency lights and the siren were on. The accident is being investigated as a case of endangering road safety from both sides.
