Finland ended its hostilities with the Soviet Union on September 4,1944 and Soviet Union a day later.
The Ministry of the Interior has recommended that the country's flag should be hoisted high throughout the country.
The hoisting started at 7:00 am and the flags will be lowered at sunset.
Around 66,000 Finnish soldiers and 1,500 civilians lost their lives during the war.Nearly 190,000 Finns were wounded during the period of hostilities.
