The commission has already finalised a list where Katainen and Estonia’s Andrus Ansip are given the post of vice president, reported the news agency Reuters.
EC President Jean-Claude Juncker is scheduled to announce at 1000 GMT the list of commissioners and their jobs for the next five years. The team, which will help shape policy for 500 million Europeans in the 28-country bloc, will need the approval of the European Parliament.
Currently, Katainen serves as the EC vice president responsible for Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Euro. There is an attempt to reduce the number of vice presidents and increase their importance.
