FTimes-STT Report, Sept 12

The police are investigating an incident in which 13 berry pickers from Bulgaria were left to go hungry without food or water in a forest in Heinävesi, South Savonia.

The police suspect this to be a case of human trafficking.

The berry pickers arrived from Tallinn on Monday and were taken to a forest in Heinävesi to pick berries on the same day.

On Wednesday, an unidentified Bulgarian arrived to collect the berry picked. The man was reportedly not satisfied with the amount picked and therefore left the berry pickers in the forest.

Most of them spent the night out in the forest as they only had a small tent. According to the police, the men did not have food or water.

On the night between Wednesday and Thursday, the men left to seek help at the nearest house.

The police have asked for any information on two foreign-registered vehicles which had been moving around the areas of Syrjäntie, Kuittuantie and Malkkilantie.
