The number of Finns who perceive Russia as a future threat to Finland’s security is on the rise, reported the Finnish daily Kaleva based on a survey report.
According to the survey 43 per cent of the respondents viewed Russia’s threat as very huge or fairly huge.
Just a quarter of the respondents held the same view in a similar survey conducted in March.
The survey results said, most of respondents who perceive Russia as a threat to the country’s security are farmers and supporters of the Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party) and the Vihreä Liito (Green League).
Anna-Liisa Heusala, a senior researcher at the Alexander Institute, explains to the newspaper that from the Western point of view, Russia is viewed as a closed and isolated nation with aspects of the Soviet Union and that is perceived as threatening.
Taloustutkimus conducted the survey through interviews with more than a thousand Finns in early September.
