The Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors-JHL will go on a day-long strike on Tuesday, if its demands are not fulfilled by Monday.

JHL has announced the action programme protesting against a planned corporatisation of several public services by the Helsinki City Corporation.

According to JHL, the industrial action will only be cancelled, if the Helsinki City Council refrains from incorporating the services.

The one-day industrial action, if it goes ahead, will paralyse tram and metro services as well as other public services like school and day-care catering and cleaning.

The Helsinki City Transport-HKL says it plans to use buses to cover the metro service in eastern Helsinki and port connections during ferry arrivals and departures.

Daycares and schools will offer only snacks during the one-day strike.

According to the City of Helsinki Department of Early Education and Care, most day-care centres will remain open during the strike, except for group daycares with less than 30 children.

The city council will vote on the matter today.
