A fake Twitter account purporting to belong to Foreign Minister Errki Tuomioja was detected a few days ago.

The minister’s staff said they have asked Twitter to take the fake profile down.

The fake profile has attracted hundreds of followers, despite just a brief introductory tweet having been posted. It is not known who created the account and why.

According to the minister’s office, Tuomioja has so far not participated in the Twitter frenzy and neither does he have a genuine account. The minister’s staff also pointed out that there are no plans to create one.

Fake Twitter account targeting ministers is not a new phenomenon. In the past, a fake Twitter purporting to be from Interior Minister Päivi Räsänen was used to post a message which prayed that Helsinki Pride parade participants be forgiven.
