The international EUFOR troops based in the Central African Republic capital of Bangui came under fire on Wednesday.
According to the Defence Forces, unknown assailants using hand guns began to fire at the camp's barriers at 9 pm local time.
The attack compelled the EUFOR troops to return fire.
The camp is also home to Finnish peacekeepers involved in EUFOR mission. The Finnish troops were not involved in the exchange of fire.
The exchange of fire lasted for about an hour. Afterwards, normalcy resumed and the EUFOR troops began to patrol the camp's environs.
The troops did not suffer any personal injuries or material damage.
There has already been clashes between EUFOR troops and different armed groups in the past.
There are 22 Finnish soldiers in CAR.
