International Development minister SirpaPaatero will take part in the forthcoming conference on the reconstruction of Gaza Strip,confirmed an official release from the government.

 

The conference will be held in Cairo on 12 October 2014.

 

According to the release, the aim of the conference is to engage the commitment of the international community to support the reconstruction of Gaza and the longer-range development of the Palestinian territory said the release.

 

The political objectives of the conference are to support the preconditions for a lasting ceasefire agreement between the Israelis and the Palestinians and to strengthen the Palestinian Authority’s role in the Gaza Strip and in the whole of the occupied Palestinian territory.

 

The high-level conference convened by Norway and Egypt will be co-chaired by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, EU High Representative Catherine Ashton, Arab League Secretary General Nabil El-Araby, the Middle East Quartet Representative Tony Blair, as well as Foreign Ministers Laurent Fabius of France and Federica Mogherini of Italy.

 

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is one of the conference hosts said the release.
